Fire Door Inspection Reports: What Should They Include?
Fire doors are a vital part of any building’s passive fire protection system. Designed to slow the spread of fire

Queen Alexandra’s House, a prestigious and historic institution located in South Kensington, required urgent fire safety upgrades to ensure full regulatory compliance across the premises. The landmark building provides vital student accommodation, meaning that any maintenance works had to be carefully managed to safeguard residents while completely respecting the historic fabric and unique aesthetic of the property.
The primary challenge of this project was balancing modern statutory fire safety compliance with strict heritage conservation requirements, as replacing the original doorsets was absolutely not an option. Our team had to find a way to upgrade the building’s life safety integrity while preserving the architectural charm and craftsmanship of these irreplaceable historic assets.
To achieve this, we expertly retrofitted seven distinct single and double doorsets using high-performance, fire-rated products and specialized intumescent seals. Rather than altering the original timber, our technicians utilized precision remedial techniques to systematically reduce excessive gaps down to the precise legal requirements, effectively restoring the doors’ fire-stopping capabilities.
The project delivered fully compliant fire doors that meet all current UK safety standards, providing the client with certified peace of mind while perfectly maintaining the building’s heritage look. The management team was incredibly happy with our seamless execution, and we are delighted to have been retained to begin Phase 2 of the remedial works.
